For more than 10 years, the people of Can Tho have become familiar with the image of Mr. Nguyen Hong Dan (widely known as Mr. Ba Dan), who, despite his disability, has tirelessly devoted himself to charitable work—repairing potholes and damaged roads every day with his unsteady legs to ensure safer travel for the community.
Currently, Mr. Ba Dan’s three-generation family is temporarily living in Tra Noc Ward, Binh Thuy District. Their life remains full of hardships: they reside in a rented room, his children take on various jobs to make ends meet, struggling to provide daily meals. Yet despite these challenges, Mr. Ba Dan remains wholeheartedly committed to helping society, saving the small income he earns from selling lottery tickets to purchase materials and travel from place to place to repair roads for the safety of local residents.
With the support and connection of the Trade Union of the Land Registration Office Branch and the Binh Thuy District Labor Federation, on October 30, KITA Invest organized a scholarship presentation for Nguyen Ngoc Giau—the granddaughter of Mr. Ba Dan—who is currently studying at Hoa Hong Kindergarten in Tra Noc Ward, Binh Thuy District.
At Hoa Hong Kindergarten, in the presence of local authorities including representatives of the Labor Federation, the Trade Union of the Land Registration Office Branch of Binh Thuy District, and the ward’s education promotion unit, the school’s representatives received the scholarship funding for Nguyen Ngoc Giau from KITA Invest.
The scholarship will be used by the school to cover Nguyen Ngoc Giau’s tuition and meal expenses for the two academic years from 2024 to 2026. This support helps ease the family’s financial burden, enabling Mr. Ba Dan’s grandchildren to continue attending school and allowing the family to write more meaningful and inspiring stories of kindness in life.
